Making Retro Candy Dispenser | In the Labs with Vectric | Vectric FREE CNC Projects
With V12 comes the ability to design and draw in the 3D view. If you have not tried it yet, then this video will be a great introduction for you! Todd will design and draw the plans for a fun retro candy dispenser all in the 3D view showing how easy and fast it is to use this new workflow.
Starting from a sketch as a guide to the real world size, Todd can quickly transfer its measurements and create the initial vectors needed. Using some of the built in vector editing features he will then break the design down, move parts onto the necessary layers, and then to the proper sheets. From here there are just a few simple toolpaths to be made, and some tricks to get a "chamfer" effect so the candy rolls out easily… maybe a bit too easily… :)
This is a fun and satisfying build that has a tasty end game! For all of you old enough to remember the gumball machines of the past this will bring back some memories! Don't forget this design could also be customized for your four legged friends as a pet treat dispenser. We can't wait to see what you do with this project!
Have fun making, and make fun stuff!

That looks awesome, to bad i wasted all that money on vectric program that don't work. trying to find something else because it was a wast of money.
How can I make it so that the step has the external or male piece and the embra fits and does not go to the bottom? And the other question is how to do this with letters that have centers? greetings from Mexico 🟩⬜🟥.
Hannah eyes look right through my soul
I don't have any file with .dxf extension. Any idea from where I can download them?
Hello... there is a link in the description (under the video window) to the project files. www.vectric.com/support/tutorials/aspire/?playlist=getting-started-with-vectric-software&video=import-vectors-and-create-profile-toolpaths
Is there anyway I can download that 3d content that you have under Clipart and Design&Make?
Once you purchase the software you will have access to the free clipart that is included in the software. There are a few Free projects over at Design and Make you can download - store.designandmake.com/theme/FreeModelsProjects
Every video I watch and follow along with, always puts my plug and pocket on top of each other on the same board. Nobody shows how to create separate boards for each one and mine always creates 2 toolpaths, one on top of the other. Never works and I can't figure it out.
Hello... I do point out that you should create the 2 sheets you need for the pocket and plug. If you do this ahead of time you will see in the VCarve Inlay Toolpah and option to pick the "Plug Destination Sheet", choose the sheet you would like your "Plug" vectors to be placed.
Mine puts the male and female on the same work piece. You didn't show how you got 2 work pieces on there so this is no help.

can I use clipart in trial version? , for some reason tabs wont show up 11:50
The trial version does not include the free "3D tabs". If you do download the tutorial files the ones that are used are included in the project file.
Great project, but for those of us that have older versions can you supply the SVG files.
Hello Chuck. Unfortunately free projects are only available in the current version of the software (at time the project is released). IF you follow along with the video you should get most of the info to recrate the vectors and tooling in your version.
hey there, im having a problem with the fretboard radius. im doing everything exactly the same as the video, yet for some reason; my fretboard radius is coming out wrong. im getting 9.5 at the last frets, but the radius compounds up to 7.25 at the nut. any idea why? Thanks!
Will it work with V carve Pro 8.5
The laser module can only be purchased as an add on to any of our Cut2D, VCarve or Aspire version 11+ products. Hope this makes sense, thanks!
I have Vectric Vcarve desktop, updated to 12.8 and I cannot work out how to see the option for adding a dimension I like you have done 2.59. What am I missing?
Hello... make sure you are in the 3D view... :)
Hey, thank you for this video, do you know if it’s possible to do slicing on a 3d model that has all sides? Like a 3d print file. I was trying to import those stls but keep getting areas where the software fills in and ruining the object.
Hello... yes you should be able to. If you are having trouble it might be best if you contact support@vectric.com and they can help.
@@vectric thank you, I’m on a trial so I don’t think I’m eligible or I’m not sure but if you’d make a video of it that would help many, beleive it or not there is literally not a single example. I tried double sided, even 4 axis, but the models on the “negative” areas getting extra materials calculated so it can be carved. But what I’d like to do is to use aspire just to slice up a complete 3d object. Thank you
What is that flush cut saw you used at the end there?
Hello and thanks for the question... we picked that up at our local B&Q store - It's called "Stanley Mini Flush ". Hope that helps.
I'm learning more, but I spent 20 minutes trying to find the shortcut to bring up the floating dialogue box, finally saw where you clicked that slide bar. Just takes a few times to catch it all. Thank you. Is there any of way to call it up or bring it up? What is the brand of the Gel Stain you used? Unable to read the brand.
Hello and thanks for the comment. Yes in the 3D view, once you have a component selected and in transform mode (2 clicks) then you will see the floating icons in the 3D View. There will be one that looks like a "settings" icon. If you can't find it please email support@vectric.com and they can help. :)
In sketch tool how do I get rid of the border
Hello and thanks for the question. Create a vector around the part you leaving the boarder out side of the vector. Then in the Sketch Carving toolpath have the bitmap and the vector(s) selected and choose the option in the "Machine Limit Boundary" to use "Selected Vector". That should do the trick. :)
Thanks for the great project. I don’t have Vectric Software but could not resist making this project. I copied this design and adapted it for my software. Thanks again 🙏🏼
Love it... glad you liked it... :)
Thanks, I need lots of V12 modeling videos, since I've been using Vectric for several years but just upgraded to Aspire since V12 and most of the info I find is on older versions. Thanks, I will be at the meeting in Roundrock Tx. in OCT '24 hope to see you there.
Good stuff!!!
Instructor needs to slow it down a bit. I am a legacy Vectric user so I'm sure that a third party like Mark Lindsay will cover this in more detail.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hello, is there a version that can be programmed on g18 and g19 plans? I intended to machine doors on all sides ?
use with indexed head
Have been wanting this feature for a long time, and a few clamps and bits ago! Thank you
Glad it will help... :)
Can u make me one I will pay you 10$😢😢😢😢😢please I miss my bff named Avalon please 😢😢😢
Muy ilustrativo el video. Felicidades
Gracias
1) great update, I've wanted No Go Zones for a while 2)what tape do you use?
Hello and thanks for the comment!!! Keep-Out Zones are GREAT!!! The tape is called - "EVERBUILD DOUBLE-SIDED CLOTH CARPET TAPE MESH CLEAR 25M X 50MM"
I have downloaded the file for the Book Pile Box. In fact, I downloaded it 5 times to make sure this wasn't a problem in my download. I have started the VERT_Two-Side_LID_and_SPINES.crv program but there are only 2 toolpaths in that .crv file, which are: 3D Finish .125" TBN & Drill Holes .25" UPCut EM, and are the toolpaths for the first side. I believe I'm missing 2 toolpaths, the ones for the 2nd side (part flipped) to machine the rabbet cuts and to machine the cutouts. If I need to create those toolpaths myself I need to know, I'm on a bit of a time restraint. Up to this point everything has been great, having finished the VERT_Box_Sides_Layout.crv program.
buen tutorial gracias por compartir conocimiento
Eres muy bienvenida!
Is the resolution just for the rendering on screen? Or does it actually affect the quality of the model when its carved?
It affects the resolution of the model. But if you’re using a courser wood like oak then too much detail can be spurious
Hello... it does effect the "possible" final cut. I suggest you try it at different settings until you find the one you think works for you.
Does anyone know if the 'trial version' is a little different from the bought version (Version 12) ? I want to buy Vcarve... (currently use Carbide Create) and want to make sure I can navigate Vcarve's software. But I'm having trouble doing so with the trial version. I don't see an 'undo' button. If I choose a pocket tool path by accident, I dont see a way to get out of that to choose a different one. I can't even figure out how to choose a different bit when I want to create a tool path. It's stuck on 1/4" end mill. And what I'm seeing in this video is different than what I'm seeing in the trial version.
Hello Brent... The trial version should mirror the release version. If yours is not I would suggest you contact support@vectric.com and they can get you all sorted out.
Is there a way to export a relief to the library of vcarve pro? Thanks
Hi there, this is a Aspire only feature. In VCarve Pro you can only import models, take a look on our website to find out more about the different product features: www.vectric.com/compare/ hope this helps!
Any reason not to use a 1 inch surfacing bit instead of the 1/4" end mill to remove the plugs?
Hello and thanks for the question. Short answer... I could have :) I was just not all that confident in using the surfacing bit, and was worried it might cause more chipping... but I could be wrong. If I had more then on kick at making this I probably would have given it a try to save time.
This is a great projet I really love this, so much so that I'm going to make some for the Christmas fairs we will attend next November end December. Thank you so much
No problem... so happy you like it!
cool
Thanks!
Thasnk yopu Beky this was really instructive
No problem!
Totally lost from 18:25.. How narator made a copy from left to right?
Stick to old version.
Hello, I actually used the old Ctrl+Shift+h option (Ctrl=Copy, Shift=About an Axis, h or v = the axis). This has been around for a long time and should have mentioned it. You also could have used the mirror tool, like I did earlier in the video. Sorry for the confusion.
Super nice and instructive video. I'm so eager to use this new feature, having seen your cutting board I'm even more eager My next video will be about some V carve inlay I did, I cut them a week before the release of V12... I even say in my video that I'm excited about this new feature. Thanks again Todd
Thanks for that!!! The new feature really makes it easy for a new to V-Inlay user. Knowing how to do it from scratch has its benefits too. I'll be watching your video!!!
Thank you! Love the start to finish format!
Thanks!!!
Nice tutorial thanks.
Thanks!!!
Amazing!! Thanks for the idea and detailed instruction. Some Engravings on the acrylic could also be nice.
Nice Idea!!! Thanks for sharing... :)
You guys need to go clean up the wording in the material description for this project because I found it confusing.
Hello and thanks for the comment, and will we take that on board.
great project thanks for sharing
No problem... I really enjoyed it! Can't wait to see what you all do with it!
Excellent tutorial. Just what I was looking for. Thank you!!!
Glad you found it helpful!!!
How come you don't compensate the material thickness when setting up the spoilboard dowel holes on the second side like you do in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/OxJQsdx8F0Q/v-deo.html What critical factor determines which operation to use? Sometimes things work, sometimes they don't and seldom do I know why.
Hello and thanks for the question. Because we are cutting the holes directly into the spoilboard we do not need to. Your work material is off the machine and we are cutting the mirrored (the flip direction you would have chosen in your job setup) version of the dowel holes into it. If you remember in the video I copied the ones from the front to the back, so the software took care of the mirroring for me. We just zero or set "Z" from the spoilboard. The process of using the asymmetrical dowel pattern is perfect if you want to insure when you flip the material it lines up properly... the other way works as well but you have the added factor of the possibility of flipping it the wrong way.
@@vectric thank you for the response. Can I use this process for all my 2-sided 3D carvings? (please say yes) Are there situations where I need to compensate for material thickness when drilling into my spoilboard if I am already zero'ed off the spoilboard surface? (Like with the Z-Probe?) (PS I'm using a Genmitsu 4030 with UGS)
Still appreciating the vid thanks for the info. I think this should be redone and put in the training videos.
Thanks for that.. :)
So, why nobody explain how to run the g-code on a CNC? Everybody explain how to create the 3d object.
Hello... The process of learning the controller software for your CNC is not something we offer seeing as we do not make it. If you contact your CNC manufacturer, they will be happy to help.
@@vectric I just made my CNC. I’m trying softwares before I make the decision to buy one. I can use full functionality on Fusion 360. Your trial is very limited and I will not invest more time because you don’t let me test accordingly. Thanks.
What double-sided tape do you recommend, and what v bite did you use? Can you add a link to watch the other video?
Hello we use "Everbuild DOUBLE-SIDED CLOTH CARPET TAPE MESH CLEAR 25M X 50MM", it was a 60 degree vbit and the link to the other video is - ua-cam.com/video/zui8vL_SmVk/v-deo.html Hope that helps...
Wow!! Video is 8 years old and not a single comment. I picked up a few toolpath strategies I can benefit from. Going from 9 hours of machining down to less than 3 is an enormous improvement! Just requires taking another look at available alternatives. Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for the comment!!!
¡Mantente a salvo! --------------------------------- Google Translate ---------------------------------- Thank you for the comment! Sorry you are not in a position to upgrade, but that is a nice thing about owning the software. If things change in the future, please keep us in mind! Keep safe!
❤❤
All well and good but unless I am mistaken the Keep out zones don't work with nesting
Hello Alan... we would be interested in knowing more about this. Could you please email support@vectric.com with the issue... so we can make sure we support as may situations as we can.
why upload this
Hello... this is actually a very old video. You might be better off looking at this page for newer content... www.vectric.com/support/tutorials/aspire/?search=Two&video=how-to-create-a-two-sided-project
I wish there was an easy curve tool similar to the b-spline pen mode in Inkscape. I still find it easier to create my vector drawings outside of aspire, which is crazy considering the cost vs a free tool like Inkscape.
Thanks for that, we are always looking or comments like this. Comparing our tools with other software is important, thanks!
